Quality Welsh Slate Headstones

Artisan Memorials is the leading supplier of finely crafted, bespoke slate headstones and gravestones in the UK. Over the years we have built up close ties with the major Welsh slate quarries and have unprecedented access to this precious and scarce material.

Slate is a durable, beautiful choice for any headstone grave marker, providing an incredibly smooth, finely-grained surface that allows for the most intricate engravings. It is available in a variety of darker shades – such as greys, blues, greens and purples, ensuring a timeless appearance that can be personalised to your preferences. Although slate can be a bit more expensive, it is exceptionally durable and won’t age or weather, maintaining its wonderful qualities.

Welsh Slate headstones are incredibly resistant to the elements, and have a lower water absorption rate than other options – a factor that you may consider if the memorial will be located in a very shaded or damp environment. Slate is also extremely robust and is available at either two or three inches thick, making it an ideal choice for those who favour a slender headstone. Here at Artisan Memorials, we supply a variety of slate options including:

Welsh Grey/Blue from the Cwt y Bugail Quarry in Ffestiniog, North Wales
Welsh Heather from the Penrhyn Quarry, near Bethesda, North Wales
Welsh Hard Grey from the Penrhyn Quarry, near Bethesda, North Wales

We offer slate memorials to customers nationwide. To discuss your requirements and talk to an expert regarding types of slate available, their qualities and individual characteristics, or to arrange an initial consultation, please get in touch with our team today.

The artisan memorials team and particularly Megan were absolutely fantastic with our very fussy needs from start to finish. They really helped make what is an incredibly difficult time all the much easier with patience and understanding, nothing was too much trouble. From searching for 'just the right stone' to advocating on our behalf with our local council, Megan was just the person we needed, and Mark did an absolutely amazing job on the carving and preparation. As much as we hope to never have to need them again, if we do need another memorial, we will be coming back to them without a second thought.

I honestly cannot recommend this memorial company enough. The communication throughout the whole process was exceptional, and the care, support and service they provided made what can be a very difficult and emotional journey so much easier.

The headstone has turned out absolutely beautiful, exactly as I had imagined it, and I couldn’t be happier with the final result.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a memorial for their loved one.

Exceptionally good in every respect. Delivered beyond my expectations, and were not only incredibly helpful with suggestions with stone type and design, they communicated perfectly, updating with photos. They managed the entire process seamlessly, dealing with the church and the council. Nothing was too much trouble. Despite a short window, they delivered and fitted my grandmother's stone in time.

Their expertise, enthusiasm and craftsmanship was so uplifting during an emotional journey. Thankyou.
